SBDC SUCCESS STORY: ZESTO AUDIO
Zesto Audio Makes Beautiful Music
When George and Carolyn Counnas launched Zesto Audio in 2011, they quickly became a small business success story in the world of analog audiophiles.
The Thousand Oaks-based company engineers and manufactures high-end components for very sophisticated music lovers that brings back the warmth, dynamic range and fidelity of vinyl records. Their first two products, the Andros PS1 phonostage and Leto Preamp, are selling well.
The couple wanted to expand their market and turned to EDC-VC for advice on international distribution. They met with SBDC director Ray Bowman. “Ray has amazing export knowledge, but his best advice was to focus and strengthen on our domestic market first,” said Carolyn.
They also met with SBDC advisor Lance Korthals, who was able to use his knowledge of the audio industry to advise Zesto Audio about sales, marketing and new product development and branding.
Working with the SBDC advisors helped the couple set goals and priorities, and create a business plan. They also received manufacturing-specific advising to help them navigate the complex world of international sales.
“The main growth in our company is now international,” said Carolyn. “We’ve acquired seven new distributors in the last few months. We benefited the most with SBDC’s help in establishing reasonable profit margins with the many pricing layers for international distribution.”
